The theme for IWD 2023 is #EmbraceEquity.

“Equity isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s a must-have, a focus on gender equity needs to be part of every society’s DNA. And it’s critical to understand the difference between equity and equality.” (www.internationalwomensday.com)

The first European International Women’s Day was held on 19th March 1911. Since that date women across the world have come together to fight for equity.

We have spoken to our longest female member of staff Donna Kerr who has manage Greentown’s offices for the last 10 years! She has shared her experiences of working in a male-dominated industry, and why it is important to have equity within the workplace, sports and society as a whole!

“I was the first woman to join the Greentown team 10 years ago when maybe there was less than 10 people on the payroll. Many great women have joined me along the way which have made a positive impact on the business and how it’s grown over the past 10 years.

A woman whom I admire in Greentown is Stephanie, she is one of our Drainage Operatives whose office is an 18 tonne Gully Lorry! Stephanie has strived within a role that would have been predominately male for several years and is one of our most experienced operators who specialises in drainage investivations.

I am also a mother of three girls which spurs me on to encourage more equality not just in the workplace but in sport and society. I hope they will have the positive experiences like I have had. I hope I’ve done my job right and have raised them with strength, empathy, intelligence and grace. We could do with more women like that!”
